He was often called "twiggy" in his boyhood due to his long legs and skinny build; even after growing into himself, Matthew is still quite lanky and never filled out like his brothers did. He hates that his arms are so long and that his shoulders are narrow, but he appreciates standing at six feet tall. His long stride is good for running great distances and riding bikes, which keeps his physique lean.
He's fair skinned and it irritates easily—turning pink in the summer when the air gets hot or when he rubs at his chin in concentration. He's been trying to grow a beard there for years to make his face seem more mature, but the blond hairs can only be seen in direct sunlight. It's a wasted effort, and so he doesn't let the stubble get too long. Luckily, the wavy hair on his head is probably his best feature.
His eyes are hazel and wispy with long eyelashes—far apart on either side of an upturned nose dusted with freckles. He has one on his lower lip, thin and supple, and his mouth can be compared to a papercut.
Matthew is often found wearing the clothes that are best suited for his college campus. This consists of dress shirts and coats, pinstriped and patterned, with the occasional layered sweater. With his wealthy upbringing, he might wear custom suits to formal occasions, but is never seen wearing a hat because he fears it will cover his best feature.

Cursed with being a perfectionist like his father, Matthew is known for fixating on his hobbies and interests until he deems his projects up to his standards. Because of his artistic abilities, these might consist of piano pieces and his own original songs—practiced incessantly and, some might even say, obsessively. He is an objectively great musical artist, but his inner critic will always bash his work and efforts. It sounds a lot like his father. He wishes that his son would put in as much effort towards his studies as he does towards the piano, seeing his hobby as nothing more than a casual way to pass time and not a viable career path. He expects Matthew to grow out of it once he finds a woman to marry and has little time for music when they finally have kids. But Matty has no such plans.
He's the flightiest (and youngest) of his three brothers, all of which aim to pursue their father's high expectations in academics and family life. The only thing that keeps him persisting towards this is the competition between siblings and the weight of disappointing his parents—pushing himself through school in the hopes that he will finally get approval. But when he can, he pushes the envelope: neglecting deadlines in order to give his best work, going against rules, and abusing his dad's position of power to make the school look the other way. He's disorganized and uncontrolled, but he always delivers good work.
When he's not studying or playing the piano, Matthew enjoys art shows, the theatre, and the crowds that these spaces seem to attract. In these diverse crowds, he's known to charm people with his dry sense of humor and direct conversations—earning friends in high and low places. It's not the demographic that his family would like him to hang around, but it is where he feels most accepted.
